Amongst their many boutiques, Cartier have three flagship boutiques in the world: London, Paris and New York. They were all originally built around 1910 and recently Cartier decided to refurbish the Grade II Listed boutique in New Bond Street, London.
Mitchell Price have worked for Cartier for more than seven years and we were absolutely delighted to be offered the opportunity to act as Project Managers, Cost Consultants and Contract Administrators for this most prestigious of refurbishments.
With the design lead by Cartier's French architects, we guided the UK end of the operation. We assembled a team of UK consultants, lead the project through the complex town planning and building control approval phases and in conjunction with the UK services and structural consultants we supervised the construction from commencement to handover.
To produce the end result as quickly as possible and with minimum cost risk, we split the project into two phases so the extensive structural alterations could be tendered and undertaken on site while the interior finishes were being designed. This process resulted in one contractor undertaking the structural work and a separate contractor undertaking the fit-out which resulted in split responsibilities that had to be carefully managed by us.
The project was a collaboration between a French client, designers from the UK and France, and contractors from the UK, France and Italy. A truly international effort!
We were pleased that the new boutique opened on time and within the budget set by the client.
Of all of the many boutiques we have managed for Cartier, this was undoubtedly the most challenging, but also the most rewarding as the finished boutique is beautiful and should serve Cartier for another 100 years.
