On the day before Mother's Day 2007, with the restaurant fully booked for the following day, this Grade II Listed pub dating from the 16th century, suffered a terrible fire due to an electrical fault which destroyed the roof and extensively damaged much of the first floor. The Kentish Rifleman is Stephen Mitchell's local pub and Mitchell Price were very pleased when the owners asked Stephen to assist them in its reconstruction.

In this project we acted as Building Surveyors, compiling drawings and specifications to the client's requests, obtaining statutory approvals, seeking contractor's tenders and managing the construction process through to the completion of the works.

Because so much work was required to re-build the pub, the owners took the opportunity to extend it and to rearrange the internal accommodation, including relocating the pub kitchen and creating additional space for diners. Close collaboration with the client enabled Mitchell Price to deal with all of the design and approval issues that arose as a result of this additional work.

The works were completed such that the final account was within 1% of the original contract sum and the pub was successfully trading well before Mother's Day 2008.
